Gaskets are a type of mechanical seal designed to fill the space between mating surfaces. Often found in fluid processing and handling equipment, gaskets prevent contaminants from entering a system while also stopping process fluids from escaping. This prevents system damage from unwanted contaminants and reduces material waste.

Rubber seals encompass a wide variety of products, including rotary seals, valve stem seals, o-rings, and mechanical seals. While gaskets are typically only found in static applications, rubber seals can be found in various active environments in rotary shafts, pumps, engines, motors, and more. Based on customer design requirements, gaskets and rubber seals can be produced from a wide range of stock materials using techniques such as waterjet cutting, lathe cutting, and moldless systems.

Our Unique Rubber Seals and Gaskets Cutting Methods

Using the right cutting method is essential to ensure the best possible seals and gaskets. At Moriteq, we offer several cutting methods to meet customer needs.

Moldless Process

Moldless systems offer a way to produce rubber gaskets and seals without the use of metallic molds. Because this process does not require the use of metal tooling, it offers reduced initial production costs and shortened lead times. Although metallic molds may be best for mass production, the moldless system is best for order-made products and low production runs such as trial products, prototypes, and parts with complex shapes.

Lathe Cut Rubber Gaskets

Lathe-cut rubber gaskets and seals are created by inserting an extruded rubber tube into a mandrel. The mandrel turns at high speeds, enabling the quick production of precision-cut rubber gaskets and seals. This process offers a cost-effective alternative to molding and die-cutting and is often the best solution for applications requiring a static seal and long service life.

Water Jet Cutting Process

Rubber water jet cutting allows us to develop custom sealing products without extensive lead times or tooling costs. Using a stream of highly pressurized water, waterjet cutting cuts rubber materials based on pre-programmed instructions. This process offers a way to make fast, accurate cuts with clean edges. The precision of waterjet cutting makes it ideal for creating small gaskets and seals with tight tolerances.

Custom Rubber Seals and Gasket Materials

Although gaskets and seals can be produced using a wide variety of materials, rubber is often the most popular choice. Rubber materials come in several grades and formulations, each offering its own unique characteristics that make it ideal for different applications. Because of that, it’s important to consider the specific needs of your application when choosing the best rubber material for your seals and gaskets.

At Moriteq, we can produce rubber seals and gaskets using the following materials:

  • Silicone
  • Synthetic rubber
  • Butyl
  • Neoprene
  • Fluorocarbon
  • EPDM
  • Natural rubber
  • Buna-N
  • Vulkollan®
  • Asaprene®
  • Serrated rubber
  • Cork

Common non-rubber materials that Moriteq can work with include:

  • UHMW-PE
  • Thermoplastics
  • Sponge
  • Felt
  • Engineered plastic
  • HDPE
